What batter to make onion rings with to make them crispy: chef's idea
Onion rings are a delicious homemade snack that is perfect for cozy family gatherings. It takes very little time to prepare the appetizer. But for the dish to have a rich golden color and crispy taste, you need to choose the right batter.
The idea of making crispy onion rings was shared by the famous Ukrainian chef Lisa Hlinska on her Instagram page. The main ingredient to add to the batter is beer.
Ingredients:
- 1 kg onion
- 230 g flour (7.5 tbsp)
- 1 tsp salt
- 370 ml of light beer
- 8 g baking powder (2 tsp)
Additional ingredients:
- 50 g flour (2.5 tbsp)
- refined vegetable oil for deep frying
Method of preparation:
1. Peel and cut the onion into 1.5 cm wide rings.
2. Disassemble and immerse the rings in cold water.
3. Leave the onion rings in cold water for 5-10 minutes to let the onion leave its bitterness.
4. Dry the rings on a paper towel.
5. For the beer batter, mix flour, baking powder and salt.
6. Add light beer and stir until there are no lumps.
7. Roll the rings in flour, then in beer batter and dip them in heated oil.
8. Fry until golden brown.
9. Transfer the rings to a paper towel.
