Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev and made several statements regarding Sino-Russian relations and the situation in the world. In particular, he called the relations between Russia and China "exemplary" but noted that their countries should "promote the development of the international order in a more just and reasonable direction."

Medvedev has been in China for three days, but only now has the Chinese leader met with him, the South China Morning Post reports. The Russian official brought Xi a letter from dictator Vladimir Putin, the content of which has not been disclosed.

Welcoming the "exemplary relations" between the countries, Xi said that China is "ready to strengthen strategic synergy" with Russia. The Chinese leader also reiterated Beijing's position on the war in Ukraine, saying that China has "repeatedly emphasized" the need to adhere to three principles. These are "non-expansion of battlefields, inadmissibility of escalation of hostilities, and inappropriateness of incitement."

"China will continue to defend its position and work with the international community to create favorable conditions for a political solution to the crisis," the newspaper quoted Xi as saying to Medvedev.

Separately, the leader of the ruling Chinese Communist Party said that the parties of the two countries would continue to strengthen their cooperation. As a reminder, former Russian President Medvedev also heads the ruling party of the aggressor country.

"We must reach a consensus among friendly political parties from around the world, especially those in the Global South, and push the world in the right direction," Xi said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, China continues to insist on the need for negotiations to resolve the "Ukrainian crisis." They believe that the international community should help create conditions for the resumption of direct negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
