The Supreme Court sided with Trump

On Monday, March 4, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed Donald Trump to run for president, ruling that he cannot be unilaterally excluded from the primaries. The court unanimously overturned a Colorado ruling that Trump had lost his right to run for president again due to the organized storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

This was reported by CNN. It is noted that the Supreme Court ruled the day before Super Tuesday when Colorado and 14 other states and one territory will hold presidential primaries.

"Today, the Supreme Court ruled that former President Donald Trump should be on the ballot in Colorado," the statement said.

This decision put an end to attempts to prevent Donald Trump from running for president under a constitutional provision that prohibits persons involved in a rebellion from holding office. It was the first time that the Supreme Court considered Trump's involvement in the January 6, 2021, mutiny in the Capitol.

The ruling overturned the Colorado Supreme Court's decision that Trump had lost the right to run for president again because of his attempt to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election.

Thus, the Supreme Court sided with Trump, ruling that a single state does not have the unilateral right to apply the 14th Amendment to disqualify federal candidates.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on December 19, the Supreme Court of the US state of Colorado found former President Donald Trump guilty of inciting an uprising and banned him from participating in the presidential election in the state. This decision was made on the basis of the 3rd part of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, as well as the court verdict of November 18, 2023, in which Trump was found guilty of attempting a coup d'état and inciting the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
