Democrats answer whether they will support Speaker Johnson's idea to help Ukraine and Israel separately

House Democratic leaders say they are ready to accept Speaker Mike Johnson's strategy of splitting the emergency package of aid to partners (including Ukraine and Israel) into parts. However, they first want to make sure that all components of the bill passed by the Senate are part of these separate projects.

This was reported by the American newspaper The Hill. Earlier, Democrats had been pushing Johnson to bring the $95 billion aid package passed by the Senate to a vote, which combines military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan with humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip, for weeks.

Now, Democratic Party leaders have said that they are ready to take part in the consideration of individual bills if all the main elements of the package passed by the US Senate are included in them.

"The important point is the substance of the law. The substance matters," Democratic Party spokesman Pete Aguilar said.

Democrats expect Johnson to release the exact details of his plan on Tuesday, April 16. Several Democratic representatives, including the heads of the Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, and Appropriations Committees, will review the four bills to make sure they pass the "substance test" and deserve Democratic support.

Earlier, House Speaker Mike Johnson has unveiled a plan to help Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan: four separate bills are to be voted on. The plan is to consider the four bills under one procedural rule.

Earlier, it was reported that The White House does not support the idea of dividing the funding for assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan into separate bills. At the same time, the administration of US President Joe Biden wants to get more information about the initiative of House Speaker Mike Johnson.
