Russia may strike Ukraine with "Oreshnik" in the coming days – American media
The Russian Federation's troops may allegedly launch another medium-range ballistic missile at Ukraine in the coming days. This assumption was published by foreign media on December 11.
Bloomberg cited a U.S. official who asked not to be named in its publication. The journalists pointed out that Russia has only a few experimental missiles, which dictator Vladimir Putin has dubbed "Oreshnik."
The United States does not consider these weapons to be a decisive factor, the official added.
The AP said that US intelligence has information about a possible launch of the "Oreshnik" in the coming days.
The US government views the weapon "as an attempt to intimidate rather than a turning point on the battlefield in Ukraine."
According to an AP source, the "Oreshniks" carry a smaller warhead than other missiles that Russia has regularly launched at Ukrainian territory.
Reuters published a similar warning. The journalists also believe that the war (according to some Russian and Western officials) is entering "its final and most dangerous phase as Moscow's forces advance at the fastest pace since the first weeks" of the full-scale invasion.
In addition, Reuters reminded that on January 20, 2025, Republican Donald Trump will officially become president of the United States, and he insists on a ceasefire and negotiations, calling into question Washington's long-term support for Kyiv.
To note: Moscow first used the "Oreshnik''/''Kedr'' on November 21, attacking the Dnipro. Putin claimed that it was a response to Ukraine's attacks with American weapons deep into Russia.
The head of the aggressor state also threatened that the occupiers could shell "decision-making centers" in Kyiv and military-industrial enterprises.
On December 11, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it would respond to the Ukrainian strike on the Taganrog air base with six ATACMS missiles.
"This attack with the use of Western long-range weapons will not go unanswered," the Russian Defense Ministry's press service said on Telegram.
As reported by OBOZ.UA:
– The British Defense Ministry believes that Russia struck the Dnipro with a new missile, seeking to send a "strategic message" about the use of Western missiles by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike Russia.
– Earlier, Reuters, citing two senior Ukrainian government sources, said the missile that hit Dnipro on November 21 had several warheads but no explosives.
