"No evidence": Slovakia refused to condemn the supply of ballistic missiles from North Korea to Russia

Blanar justified himself by claiming the "lack of evidence"

Slovakia, like Hungary, has refused to sign a joint statement by nearly fifty countries condemning North Korea's transfer of missiles to Russia. Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar justified his refusal by claiming that there was "no evidence" of such transfers.

According to Blanar, Bratislava "consistently advocates" compliance with international law and UN Security Council sanctions, as reported by TASR. "But we are not going to do this (condemn the violation of sanctions - Ed.) just because someone comes to us and says that they think so, but is not going to provide us with evidence to support this," the Slovak Foreign Minister said.

At the same time, he assured that Slovakia is ready to join the declaration as soon as evidence of North Korean missiles being supplied to Russia is presented.

"I assure you: as soon as we have (the evidence - Ed.) at our disposal and it convinces us, in particular, the international community at the level of the Security Council, we will join it (the statement of condemnation - Ed.)," Blanar said.

Simultaneously, the Slovak Foreign Ministry, in a comment to Aktuality.sk, stated that it has no information confirming that ballistic missiles were indeed supplied to Moscow by the regime of dictator Kim Jong-un.

"A text that cannot be commented on was sent to the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It contains results that need to be studied first. Our side does not have any information that would confirm the origin of the ballistic missiles," the ministry's press service told reporters.

As you know, the foreign ministers of 47 countries in a joint statement condemned North Korea's supply of ballistic missiles to Moscow. The text of the statement was published on January 9 on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The statement was signed, in particular, by representatives of the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Canada, and the EU.

As previously reported by OBOZ.UA, after the elections in Slovakia in the fall of 2023, a pro-Russian party came to power and initiated the termination of military assistance to Ukraine. The newly appointed Foreign Minister Blanar, who lacks diplomatic experience, declared a "civil war" in Ukraine back in 2014 and did not recognize Russia's aggression.

As a reminder, on January 10, the White House announced that the United States had received evidence of Russian ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine from North Korea. Washington intends to increase sanctions against those who facilitate the illegal transfer of weapons to the aggressor.
