"He wants to humiliate the ICC": Ukrainian journalist on why Putin is coming to Mongolia
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is going to visit Mongolia, which has signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. With this visit, he wants to humiliate the ICC, because he knows that he will most likely not be arrested in this country despite the issued warrant.
With his trip, Putin may set a precedent, because he will visit Mongolia and return to Moscow, after which everyone will talk about it. This opinion was expressed by a well-known Ukrainian journalist and publicist Vitaliy Portnykov on the air of Espreso TV.
"Everyone will be talking about it. Mongolia invited Putin and nothing happened. This is the story. This is a precedent, and after this, other countries that have signed the Rome Statute and ratified it may be able to safely invite Putin and not only him. This is just an incredible story," he said.
Portnykov noted that the Russian president is always trying to provoke a confrontation between democracy and dictatorships. Mongolia is a democratic country, he reminded.
"This is a country that has repeatedly changed its government and had uprisings. However, its government supports Russia and China. It turns out that it is possible to be a conditional democratic country and cooperate with dictatorships. This is how the world is divided and a war of worlds is created. Putin is one of the active players who provokes this war," the journalist added.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin intends to pay an official visit to Mongolia on September 3 on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the victory of Soviet and Mongolian troops over the Japanese army near the Khalkhin Gol River.
The visit will take place without the threat of arrest despite a warrant from the International Criminal Court, the media reported. Official Ulaanbaatar assured Moscow that it would not detain the so-called president of the Russian Federation.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry called on Mongolia to fulfill its obligations under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and arrest Russian dictator Vladimir Putin when he arrives in the country for a visit.
