Greece joins G7 declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine: Zelenskyy gives details

Athens became the 14th capital of the world to sign the declaration issued at the G7 Summit in Vilnius

On Monday, 21 August, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Greece on a working visit. Following a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, this European country joined the G7 declaration on security guarantees for our country.

The Ukrainian leader provided details during a joint press conference with Mitsotakis. Zelenskyy thanked the Prime Minister for his support in Ukraine's European integration (scroll to the bottom of the page to watch the video).

"Greece has joined the G7 declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine. We will continue this work at the bilateral level to make the security assurances format a model for other states that need effective security guarantees. The world will definitely become more stable as a result of such joint security work," he said.

In addition, Zelenskyy reminded that Ukraine plans to start negotiations on EU membership this year and called today's step by Greece a necessary signal.

"This is a much-needed signal that Greece wants peace, just as we all in Ukraine want a just peace," the Ukrainian leader added.

By the way, Zelenskyy said in Greece that our country has created an alternative "grain corridor" in the Black Sea for the food security of the whole world. However, according to the guarantor, it needs air defence protection.
