Erdogan and Putin to discuss new mechanism of Ukrainian grain exports: details

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is going to visit Turkey on February 12. He plans to discuss with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan a "new mechanism" for exporting Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.

This was announced by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Reuters reports. This trip should be the Russian leader's first visit to a NATO ally after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The publication noted that Ankara is trying to persuade Russia to return to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, from which Moscow withdrew in July 2023. The agreement was brokered by the UN and Turkey to ensure safe passage for exports from Ukrainian ports.

At the same time, Fidan said that some ships were able to transport Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea even without this agreement.

"We want to clarify this de facto (situation) with a new mechanism," he said.

Meanwhile, Turkish banks are massively closing accounts for Russian companies. Financial institutions have also increased the requirements for Russians wishing to open an account in Turkey. The reason is the fear of secondary sanctions.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Defence Express publication reported that Ukraine may receive new Russian S-400 air defense systems from Turkey. The journalists suggested that the US is trying to improve relations with Turkey, and for this purpose, they sent US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland to the country.
