Almost 5,000 Armenians have already left Nagorno-Karabakh: what's going on

Armenia has announced that internally displaced persons have begun to leave the territory of unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh. As many as 4,850 people have already arrived in the country.

This data (as of 12:00 on Monday, September 25) was shared by the press service on the official website of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. This refers to the Armenian population that remained in Karabakh before Azerbaijan's September anti-terrorist operation.

Yerevan reported that 3,900 people have already been registered, and another 950 are still being identified.

"All citizens who do not have a pre-determined place of residence are provided with appropriate housing by the government. Registration of needs for the purpose of providing assistance continues," the text says.

As a reminder, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an address to the nation on September 24 that there is a threat of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh. He promised that his country was ready to accept the Armenian population, but called the situation difficult.

He also complained about the ineffectiveness of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and Russian "peacekeepers."
