"TMR" complain of a new kamikaze drone attack

On Friday, April 5, the self-proclaimed "Transnistrian Moldovan Republic" reported a new kamikaze drone attack. At 14:35 a military unit in the Rîbnița District of the "TMR", six kilometers from the border with Ukraine, was allegedly attacked.

This is stated in a message on the website of the so-called Ministry of State Security of the "TMR". It is stated that the target of the attack was a radar station, which sustained minor damage, and there were no casualties.

"An investigative team is working at the scene. A criminal case has been opened," the "ministry" said.

The Moldovan Bureau of Reintegration Policy reported that it had analyzed the information about the possible incident and stated that "a number of challenges in the region aimed at causing panic and tension continue. This is done, in part, to draw attention to the region.

"Clarification of circumstances and qualified investigations can only be carried out by legally competent authorities, which, however, do not have access to the target perimeter," the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that our country was not involved in this incident and would definitely "not waste valuable drones for such petty provocations." Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, said this in a commentary to Suspilne.

"In general, we can say that there are forces interested in destabilizing the situation in the region under the pretext of allegedly preparing the "TMR" for an attack on Odesa. They are sowing panic and organizing provocations, but the situation is being monitored and controlled," he added.

On March 17, Transnistria reported a kamikaze drone attack on a military unit in Tiraspol. There were explosions and a fire broke out, which burned down a helicopter at the airfield. The Moldovan government said at the time that it did not confirm the attack, and called the incident an attempt to cause fear and panic in the region.

The incident, during which the helicopter burned down and no one was injured, occurred against the backdrop of the Kremlin's ongoing hybrid operation aimed at destabilizing Moldova from within, ISW noted.
