US to continue helping Ukraine after the end of the fiscal year - State Department

The U.S. State Department has assured that Washington will continue to provide Ukraine with sustained military assistance after the current fiscal year ends. It will be provided within the allocated funding.

This was stated by State Department spokesman Matthew Miller during a briefing in Washington on September 3. He assured that the United States would continue to support Ukraine in the next fiscal year.

Miller was asked whether the US would take steps to keep the $6.2 billion in appropriated support for Ukraine available after the end of the fiscal year.

"I won't discuss any actions before we take them. But I think one thing you've seen consistently from this administration is a steady supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine throughout this war. And that will continue," the US State Department official emphasized.

He added that the efforts made by the White House to support Ukraine and the billions of dollars allocated demonstrate the Biden administration's commitment to helping Ukrainians.

It is worth noting that the US fiscal year runs from October 1 to September 30. In order to carry over the remaining funds of the allocated aid to the next fiscal year, the White House must submit a request for approval by Congress.

As a reminder, in April this year, US President Joe Biden signed a law that allowed allocating more than $60 billion to support Ukraine.

As reported, the United States will continue to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. In the coming weeks, the US will send more military aid to Kyiv.

Also, the United States has come close to an agreement to provide Ukraine with long-range cruise missiles that will be able to reach Russian rear. However, Kyiv will have to wait a few months, as the US side is still working out the technical details.
