"The end of the war should not be a pause for Putin": British Prime Minister Starmer declares readiness to deploy troops in Ukraine

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that the country is ready to deploy its troops in Ukraine if necessary. This could become one of the guarantees of security for Ukraine after the war with Russia ends.

The head of the British government wrote about this in an article for The Telegraph. He stated that Britain is "ready and willing" to deploy its soldiers in Ukraine.

This is the first time he has explicitly stated that he is considering deploying British peacekeepers to Ukraine.

"Britain is ready to play a leading role in accelerating the work on security guarantees for Ukraine. This includes continued support for the Ukrainian military, where the UK is already committed to £3 billion a year until at least 2030. But it also means being ready and willing to contribute to providing security guarantees for Ukraine by putting our own troops on the ground if necessary. I do not say this lightly. I feel very deeply about the responsibility associated with the potential threat to British servicemen and women," the prime minister wrote.

Starmer emphasized that any assistance in ensuring the security of Ukraine "helps to ensure the security of our continent."

"The end of this war, when it comes, cannot simply be a temporary pause before Putin attacks again," the British prime minister said.

He confirmed that he would attend the EU leaders' summit in Paris on February 17, initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, and noted that he had a message for his European colleagues.

"We have to show that we are serious about our own defense and carry our own burden. We've been talking about this for too long, and President Trump is right to demand action," Starmer emphasized.

He clarified that European countries should increase defense spending and play a greater role in NATO.

At the same time, the British prime minister noted that only the United States can deter Russian dictator Vladimir Putin from attacking again, so American support and its security guarantees are necessary for a lasting peace.

"In the coming days, I will meet with President Trump and work with him and all of our G7 partners to help secure the strong agreement we need," he added.

Starmer called for continued support for Ukraine's irreversible path to NATO, as well as increased economic pressure on Russia. In particular, to work on limiting oil prices, against the "shadow fleet," oil giants and banks that help Moscow evade sanctions.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, at the EU leaders' summit in Paris on February 17, politicians will discuss the option of Ukraine's "automatic" accession to NATO if Russia suddenly violates the ceasefire, if negotiations are held and a peace agreement is concluded. The Guardian writes about this, citing sources.
