The Chinese and Russian defense ministers met in Beijing: What was agreed upon

On October 14, Chinese and Russian Defense Ministers Dong Jun and Andrei Belousov met and held talks in Beijing. They discussed "deepening strategic coordination, improving the quality and effectiveness of cooperation, and firmly defending the common interests of the two countries."

According to the Chinese defense minister, this will allow "jointly maintaining global strategic stability." The defense ministry's press service said that the Chinese and Russian militaries "must adhere to the directions set by the heads of state."

Belousov also praised Russian-Chinese military cooperation, which he called "an important factor in maintaining global and regional peace," and assured of Moscow's readiness to continue working together with Beijing.

The Chinese side did not disclose any other details of the talks.

Russian media reported that the ceremony of the official meeting of the Russian delegation took place near the building of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China in Beijing. Andrey Belousov was met by Dong Jun. By the way, the Chinese Defense Minister was appointed to the post in December; his predecessor Li Shangfu faces the death penalty on corruption charges.
