"The candidate's words will differ from the president's actions." Prystaiko reminds that it was Trump who provided Ukraine with the first American weapons

After the U.S. election, it is clear that candidate Donald Trump's words will differ from his actions when he becomes president, including with regard to Ukraine. It is also worth remembering that it was a Republican who provided us with our first weapons, the 2018 Javelin ATGMs.

Trump also behaved aggressively toward the Russians and the Syrian government when there were suspicions of chemical weapons use. This was stated by Vadym Prystaiko, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, former Head of the Ukrainian Mission to NATO, in an interview with OBOZ.UA.

"That is, there are certain factors that allow us to expect radical steps in the Russian-Ukrainian war. And the fact that Putin will have a honeymoon period at the first stage, you know, I'm sure of it, but we need to hold on, react calmly, keep the front, because not everything is lost," he said.

It is not yet known exactly who will be the head of the Pentagon in the new president's administration, who will be the secretary of state, and who are Trump's closest advisers.

"We see these plans that exist, they are all far from reality, most of them are being built only to please candidate Trump and get their place in the administration. When these people take their places and deal with the conflict, there will be a completely different picture. This is their side of the job, and there is also our side of the job," Prystaiko emphasized.

Ukraine needs not only to get rid of the shortcomings that prevent us from fighting to the fullest, but also to restore the ties that were destroyed with the Trump administration during the fluctuations between the Republican and Democratic administrations.

In particular, we need to explain to them why the United States needs to defend Ukraine, why we need to invest in our country, and that a lot has already been invested. The diplomat believes that the latter argument will be effective.

"As for the agreements with Putin, we should also react calmly for now. Yes, you have a certain feeling that you can reach Putin, you can somehow come to an agreement, try it. We'll see how it goes. In the end, we will be at war all this time," the former minister said.

He added that Israel had a similar position, and this led to its survival through all these years of wars. "Respect is not begged for, it is earned. It will probably be very difficult. Especially in these months, until the new Trump administration is fully in place," Prystaiko summarized.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- The candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, preliminarily wins the US presidential election. He is ahead of the representative of the Democratic Party and current Vice President Kamala Harris, having received the necessary 270 electoral votes.

- Volodymyr Dubovyk, director of the Center for International Studies, said that Trump's victory will have an impact on Ukraine. This will primarily concern the course of the war, the prospects of joining NATO, and the economy of our country. In the next four years, Ukraine should not expect to be invited to join the Alliance. We should also expect the U.S. to stop providing financial assistance to our economy and Washington to put pressure on Ukraine to negotiate with Russia to end the war by surrendering territory.
