Russia may be ready for a large-scale war with Europe in five years: Danish intelligence names conditions
Danish intelligence believes that Russia may be ready for a large-scale war in Europe in about five years. Such a development is possible if the war in Ukraine ends or is frozen, and if NATO does not rearm at the same time.
This is stated in a new threat assessment by the Danish Military Intelligence Service, DR reports. They noted that the military threat from Russia will increase in the coming years.
Currently, there is no threat of a military attack on Denmark, but in about two years, Russia could pose a "real threat" to one or more NATO countries, according to intelligence officials.
They explain their assessment of the threat of a large-scale war in Europe by the fact that Russia has initiated a major reconstruction and reform of its armed forces in parallel with its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
However, over the past year, these efforts have turned from reconstruction to "intensive military rearmament to wage war against NATO," the assessment says.
As of now, Russia has already managed to increase its capacity to modernize military equipment and has significantly increased its military production. The Russian Federation can already free up resources for its rearmament against NATO, not least because of the financial and material support it receives from the outside.
The Danish intelligence community has voiced a scenario of possible Russian actions if the war in Ukraine ends or freezes:
– For about six months, Russia will be able to wage a local war in a country bordering Russia.
– In about two years, there will be a real threat to some or several NATO countries. Russia will be ready for a regional war against several countries in the Baltic Sea region.
– In about five years, it will be possible to prepare for a large-scale war on the European continent, in which the United States will not intervene.
"These time horizons assume that NATO will not simultaneously rearm at the same pace," the report said.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the former commander of the US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, said that Ukraine should become a member of NATO and join the European Union. This is necessary not only for Ukraine but also for its Western partners, as the inclusion of the Ukrainian state in these two blocs will help prevent further aggression by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin against Western countries.
