Republicans initiate the ouster of Speaker Johnson: what is going on

Marjorie Taylor Green, a Republican congresswoman from the U.S. House of Representatives, initiated the ouster of the speaker, her fellow party member Mike Johnson. She accused the politician of betraying the party.

As you know, today the House of Representatives voted for the country's state budget. However, Democrats cast more votes for the document than Republicans, even though the latter outnumber the former in the US Congress. It was the support of Democrats that turned Republicans against Speaker Johnson, according to The Hill.

Green emphasized that her initiative is only a "warning". "Speaker Johnson betrayed our party and broke our rules. I respect our party, I pay my dues, I am a member in good standing. I don't want to hurt our party. This is a warning. It's time for us to go through the process and take our time to find a new Speaker of the House who will support Republicans in our Republican majority and not play for the Democrats," she said.

Green made a statement to the media accusing Johnson of "giving too much to President Biden and the Democrats during negotiations" even before her filing. This refers to the budget bill, to which both Republicans and Democrats submitted their proposals.

As reported, the US presidential administration assured that the House of Representatives would approve the national security bill, which contains additional assistance for Ukraine. This document should receive strong bipartisan support. This was stated by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan during his visit to Kyiv. However, the American official did not say when this would happen.

Earlier, the White House said that the U.S. House of Representatives needs to approve additional funding to support Ukraine rather than discuss the idea of a loan. This is "the only right option".
