Alexander Stubb names "red lines" for Ukraine

President of Finland Alexander Stubb said that peace talks on Ukraine should be based on clear "red lines". According to him, European leaders should insist on preserving Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a public discussion with his colleagues, Stubb also explained the "red lines" regarding Ukraine using the example of the Soviet-Finnish war.

According to the President, support for Ukraine should be based on three key principles that must be guaranteed unconditionally: its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He recalled that during World War II, Finland managed to preserve its sovereignty, but temporarily lost the ability to choose its foreign policy allies and was forced to cede 10% of its territory.

At the same time, Stubb believes that Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO are inviolable and cannot be subject to any compromises.

"There are two 'red lines' on which there can be no discussion - Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO," the president emphasized.

According to Stubb, "Ukrainians are already conducting accession negotiations, and they will be Europeans, not Russians." He is convinced that immediate accession to the Alliance is not very possible now, but at some point Ukraine will be in NATO.

As a reminder, the Finnish president is cautiously optimistic about U.S. President Donald Trump's efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine. According to him, dictator Putin understands only harsh rhetoric and only an ultimatum will force him to negotiate.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Finland will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth almost $200 million. The corresponding decision was made by Finnish President Alexander Stubb on the basis of the government's proposal.
