The Iranian Supreme Court overturned the death sentence of rapper Toomaj Salehi. The young man was convicted the year before last on a number of false charges after he expressed support for Ukraine and the women's protest in Iran.

The news about the rapper's execution was reported by his lawyer Amir Raisian. This does not mean that Salehi will live. So far, the Supreme Court has ordered a retrial of the singer's case. Salehi's sentence was overturned because the previous verdict against the young man "contradicted Iran's rules on multiple crimes."

However, one way or another, the execution of the famous Iranian singer has been postponed. Toomaj Salehi remains in custody due to previous convictions.

Salehi was arrested in November 2022 after the release of his song, which became the anthem for the anti-government protests that erupted after the death of Mahsa Amini during police detention for "indecent" wearing of the hijab.

In this song, the young man, in addition to condemning dictatorial regimes, expressed support for Ukraine. Moreover, he sang the entire song with a yellow and blue ribbon on his arm.

According to his lawyer Amir Raisian, Salehi faced an unfair trial. The singer was sentenced to death on charges of "incitement to hatred" and "corruption on Earth".

However, his sentence drew widespread international condemnation, and human rights groups and prominent figures called for his release.

As reported, a court in Iran sentenced the imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi to an additional year in prison. The 52-year-old human rights activist was found guilty of spreading "propaganda against the system" by a branch of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

The trial took place because the Nobel Prize winner had the courage to tell about a student who was tortured and sexually assaulted by the republic's security forces.
