Agents of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU) may be involved in cases of "Havana syndrome" among diplomats from the United States and Canada. Symptoms of this disease were observed exactly when and where the employees of the GRU military unit, which is associated with a series of high-profile Novichok poisonings, visited.

This is stated in a joint investigation by The Insider, Der Spiegel, and CBS News' 60 Minutes program. The investigators note that there is no direct evidence of the GRU's involvement in the use of acoustic weapons, but now the US authorities "may rethink their attitude to the Havana Syndrome."

Thus, in March 2023, US intelligence stated that it had found no evidence of any foreign state's connection to the Havana Syndrome.

According to the CIA, most cases were attributed to stress, previously undiagnosed diseases, or environmental conditions.

However, the media have now found out that the symptoms occurred during the same periods and in the same places where the employees of the GRU military unit 29155 came.

It is this unit that is associated with the Novichok poisonings of the Skripals in the UK, as well as businessman Omelyan Gebrev in Bulgaria.

According to journalists, it experimented with special weapons, and its leaders received an award for developing "non-lethal acoustic weapons ." These are devices that emit sound and radio frequencies that can be used against people.

The victims suffered from a range of mysterious health problems, including dizziness, nausea, headaches, hearing loss, insomnia, memory loss, inability to concentrate, and coordination problems.

"The new study shows that international intelligence agencies are incompetent, or that there is a cover-up going on," The Insider quotes the first victim of the syndrome as saying.

Symptoms of the "Havana syndrome" have been observed since 2014 in representatives of the US and Canadian embassies in different countries.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the media, citing a US intelligence report, said that the "Havana syndrome" could be provoked by pulsed electromagnetic energy and ultrasound. According to experts, such factors "plausibly explain" some cases of the disease.
