He went on vacation: Vance was greeted in Vermont by hundreds of people with posters in support of Ukraine. Photos and video
On Saturday, March 1, a protest against U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance was held in the American town of Westfield, Vermont. This town was chosen for the rally because the politician came there to a ski resort for a vacation.
The protest was reported by several American broadcasters. It is noted that at least 700 Americans took part in the rally near the Mad River Green resort.
It was reported in advance that Vance was going to Westfield on vacation earlier this week. However, people decided to hold the protest on February 28, after an attempted negotiation at the White House between the presidents of the United States and Ukraine. It is believed that it was Vance who provoked the conflict during these talks.
One way or another, Trump's supporters also decided to hold a rally in support of the policies of the American president and vice president. Their rally took place in neighboring Warren and did not attract much attention, as it is believed that the Trumpists "accidentally made a mistake with the city they chose."
In Westfield, Vance was met by two groups of protesters at once - on the highway to the city, right next to the resort complex, and near the hotel. The politician arrived with his wife and children on vacation.
But now it is being reported that the family of the US Vice President was forced to cancel their hotel reservation when it became clear that the protesters were not going to retreat.
The homemade posters that greeted Vance in the city read: "Vance is a traitor, go back to skiing in Russia," "Zelensky is a hero," "Goodbye, free world: traitor Trump loves Russia," "Hate will not make America great," "Vermont against fascists," and more.
Despite claims by some U.S. broadcasters that the rally was planned in advance, allegedly by Democratic Party supporters, the protesters have many homemade Ukrainian flags. Yesterday morning, before the meeting at the White House, there was no reason to plan a protest with these slogans and flags.
Protesters say they will picket daily.
Fox News, which is very positive about Trump and Vance, reports that due to the protests at the resort, "Vance and his family have been forced to move to an undisclosed location."
Who is Vance?
J.D. Vance is considered a relatively new face in American big politics. He was elected to the U.S. Senate only in 2022, and Vance began his duties as a state representative in the Senate in 2023. Before being elected to the Senate, he had never held any elected office at all.
Vance was born in 1984. At birth, he was named James David Bowman, but later took the name of his maternal grandfather, who raised him. The 40-year-old senator and father of three grew up in a steel town in Ohio.
From 2003 to 2007, he served in the Marines and spent six months in Iraq (as a war journalist). Before entering politics, Vance worked in venture capital in California, where he founded his own firm. He married in 2014 and now has two sons and a daughter.
He became famous not as a businessman or politician, but as a memoirist. In 2016, he published a book of his memoirs called Highlander Elegy: A Memoir of Family and Culture in Crisis, where he shared his view of the people of the Midwest and East Coast of the United States.
By the way, Vance was not a Trump supporter before. On the contrary, from 2016 to 2017, he was a vocal critic of the president. But in 2020, Vance had to spend several weeks deleting his own social media posts, where Vance called Trump an "opioid for the masses" and "cultural heroin."
It is believed that Vance got a place in Trump's team after he convinced many rich people to donate to the Republican election campaign.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on February 28, Zelensky paid an official visit to the United States, as the White House was planning to sign a minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States. According to the Ukrainian leader, this agreement is part of a larger security agreement with the United States for our country.
But during the talks in the White House, a dispute broke out between the Ukrainian leader, the US president, and Vice President Vance over US negotiations with Russia.
The dispute led to Volodymyr Zelensky leaving the White House early. The signing of the minerals agreement, as previously announced, did not take place.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the signing of this agreement "should take place," but it is not known when - Ukraine is ready for it, and "it's up to the United States."
