On Thursday, May 23, Czech President Petr Pavel was injured while riding a motorcycle. The head of state is in the hospital under medical supervision.

This was reported on the official account of the Office of the President of the Czech Republic on X (formerly Twitter). It was noted that the injuries were minor, but Pavel would remain in the hospital for the time being.

"The President of the Republic was injured while riding a motorcycle. The injuries are not serious but will require short-term observation in a military hospital in Prague. We will publish additional information as it becomes available," the statement said.

The Czech media outlet novinky writes that, according to police, the accident did not occur on the road but on a closed sports track. Law enforcement officers will investigate the cause of the incident.

"This is just an information post that we will not expand on yet," Pavel's office spokesman, Vit Kolar, responded to a request for additional information from journalists.

In the evening, the Central Military Hospital confirmed that it had treated President Pavel, who had sustained minor injuries on his motorcycle. He remains for observation.

Journalists write that Petr Pavel is known for his passion for motorcycles and owns a BMW GS1250. He did not abandon his hobby either when he was the head of the NATO military committee or after he was elected president of the Czech Republic.

"And this is despite the fact that even in this situation he has to be protected by a bodyguard, which is more difficult when riding a motorcycle and places higher tactical and logistical demands on his bodyguards. Police officers on motorcycles travel with him on the road," the article says.

In August 2023, Pavel was caught riding a motorcycle without a helmet. The politician then apologized for his actions.
