China sees no threats in deepening cooperation between Russia and the DPRK. Official Beijing believes that Moscow and Pyongyang have the right to decide for themselves how to develop their relations.

This statement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian at a briefing, commenting on the information about the threat of escalation of Russia's war against Ukraine due to the presence of the North Korean military contingent in Russia. In particular, he said that relations between Russia and North Korea are their business.

"Russia and North Korea are two independent and sovereign states, so the development of their bilateral relations is solely a matter for these two countries," Lin Jian said.

The diplomat repeated the statement that Beijing is not aware of the details of bilateral exchanges and cooperation between Russia and the DPRK.

In addition, he mentioned China's unchanged vision of how to end the war in Ukraine.

"China's position on the settlement of the 'Ukrainian crisis' remains unchanged and is committed to the early de-escalation and political settlement of differences," the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, according to the Financial Times, Chinese President Xi Jinping was dissatisfied with the strengthening of Moscow's cooperation with Pyongyang even before the DPRK troops were sent to Russia. Beijing is concerned that this could destabilize the Korean Peninsula and strengthen US-led alliances in the region.

According to The New York Times, the United States has asked China to prevent the DPRK army from participating in the war in Ukraine. Washington hopes to use China's influence on North Korea to put pressure on Pyongyang to return its military from Russia.

The day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was surprised by China's "silence" on North Korea's involvement in the war in Ukraine. He also criticized the "zero" reaction of the West.
