Biden expressed concern over China's support for Russia's defense industry

On Tuesday, April 2, U.S. President Joe Biden had a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two discussed a number of important issues, including the use of leverage to reduce the scale of confrontation in the Middle East and Ukraine. Biden personally warned Xi to refrain from supporting Russia's defense industry.

This was reported by White House adviser John Kirby. He was quoted by the Financial Review.

These talks were the first conversation between Joe Biden and Xi Jinping since the November summit in California, when they held a four-hour meeting aimed at preventing tensions from escalating into a conflict between the world's largest economies. Today's conversation was meant to demonstrate a return to regular dialog between the two heads of state.

"The purpose of the phone call was to continue efforts in the context of the meeting between the two leaders in Woodside, California, last November," the White House adviser said.

According to John Kirby, the two leaders had a "constructive discussion" on a number of topics, it was frank and lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The parties discussed bilateral, regional and global issues. They discussed, among other things, the fight against drugs, maintaining permanent military ties, AI threats, the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, and Russia's war against Ukraine.

"Biden expressed concern over China's support for Russia's defense industrial base and its impact on European and transatlantic security," Kirby said.

The White House also emphasized that Biden and Xi agreed to continue communication at any time when the need arises.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the United States recently warned China again against attempts to help Russia in its war against Ukraine. According to US Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller, President Biden's administration made it clear to Beijing that it should not take any steps that would help support Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
