Better results than Biden: the first polls on Harris's chances of defeating Trump were conducted in the United States

Joe Biden's decision to end his campaign immediately affected the race, as reflected in new polls. According to them, US Vice President Kamala Harris has better results than Joe Biden, and the difference between her and Donald Trump is within the margin of error. And these are just the first results after the politician stepped into the race.

This was reported by Bloomberg and Reuters, which conducted their own polls. One of them showed that Harris is two percentage points behind Trump, and the other that she is 2% ahead of him.

Thus, according to the Bloomberg poll, 45% of respondents supported Camille Harris, and 47% supported Trump. Thus, the politician's gap with the former president is smaller than Biden's – before he withdrew from the race, he had a six percentage point gap with Trump.

At the same time, in a nationwide Reuters/Ipsos poll, US Vice President Kamala Harris, on the contrary, was two percentage points ahead of Republican Donald Trump, gaining 44% of support against the former president's 42%.

In addition, in this poll, 56% of registered U.S. voters said that the 59-year-old Harris "has a sharp mind and can meet challenges." Only 49% said the same about 78-year-old Trump, and only 22% said the same about 81-year-old Biden.

Both polls took place after the US Republican National Convention, where Trump was officially nominated as the presidential candidate, and after Biden announced that he was withdrawing from the race and supporting Harris' candidacy.

Thus, there is reason to believe that putting Kamala Harris on the ballot in the presidential election could help the Democrats.

As Bloomberg notes, the appearance of 59-year-old black Kamala Harris of Jamaican-Indian descent may bring many people to the polls to vote for her who would not have done so in the previous scenario. This applies primarily to young voters, women, and ethnic minorities.

"This can change the campaign because it has a certain historical significance that you cannot capture in a hypothetical situation. And now that we're seeing it for real, it could be a game changer," said Spencer Kimball, a pollster at Emerson College.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

On July 21, Biden withdrew his candidacy from the US presidential election, explaining that it was "in the interests of the party and the country." He also expressed support for Kamala Harris as a Democratic candidate.

Kamala Harris raised $100 million for her campaign on the first day. This was the largest amount raised in 24 hours in the history of the US presidency.
