On Thursday, May 9, the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were headed by a new commander. Oleksandr Trepak was promoted.

The corresponding decree (No. 314/2024) was signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The text is published on the website of the President's Office.

From November 3, 2023, until May 9, 2024, the SSO was commanded by Serhiy Lupanchuk, but he was dismissed by decree (No. 313/2024).

As a reminder, since the end of 2020, Trepak has served as the Chief of Staff – Deputy Commander of the Special Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is 47 years old, a fourth-generation military officer, Brigadier General (2021), and Hero of Ukraine (2015).

During his officer service, he held various positions in the intelligence units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in several types of intelligence: military, radio, and information.

Trepak (call sign "Redut") has been opposing Russian aggression since 2014. From August 27 to October 3, 2014, he was a senior military commander for the defense of the territory of Donetsk International Airport. He was in direct charge of repelling all attempts to storm and seize the airport. He personally organized counter-sabotage and counter-ambush work on the outskirts of the airport, which made it impossible for militants to cut off the supply routes for food and ammunition to Ukrainian soldiers.
