Ukraine needs more air defense: US State Department responds to the shelling of Odesa during Zelensky's visit

After the shelling of Odesa, the State Department reminded that Ukraine needs more air defense

After another shelling of Odesa by Russian occupation forces, the United States said that Kyiv urgently needs more air defense equipment. Air defense systems and missiles for them are a critical need for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

This was stated by U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, commenting on the Russian army's shelling of Odesa on March 6, when President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were meeting there. Miller's words were quoted by the Ukrinform news agency.

"This strike is yet another reminder that Russia continues to shell Ukraine every day. And it's a reminder of Ukraine's need for air defense missiles," the US foreign policy official said.

Miller reiterated the need for the US Congress to take action "to support Ukraine and its fight against Russian aggression." He also noted that Washington is in constant contact with Ukraine and Greece.

As a reminder, Mitsotakis arrived in Ukraine on the morning of March 6 for an unannounced visit. He arrived in Odesa, where he met with Zelensky. On the same day, Russian troops launched a missile strike on Odesa, which resulted in deaths and injuries.

Earlier, Greek Special Representative to Ukraine Spyros Lampridis said that Athens was considering increasing military assistance to Kyiv.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Zelensky noted that there are enough air defense systems and weapons production capabilities in the world to protect Ukraine. Ukraine needs weapons now to save lives.
