Ukraine already has Tomahawk analogs: expert makes bold assumption
Certain missile weapons that Western allies are transferring to Ukraine, such as the Storm Shadow and Scalp, may have technical characteristics similar to the Tomahawk long-range cruise missile. The limitations on the range of the missile are political, not technological.
This assumption was made in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA by Oleksii Hetman, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war and a major in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, he suggested comparing the main characteristics of the three missiles – their size, explosive parts, and homing heads.
"Let's look at the size of the Storm Shadow and Scalp missiles (the first is 6.5 meters long, the second 5.1 meters long – Ed.). And now let's look at the length of the missile we really want, the Tomahawk (6.25 or 5.56 meters – Ed.). They are about the same length. The explosive parts of the Tomahawk, Storm Shadow, and Scalp are about the same. And the homing head, I think, cannot be bigger in Storm Shadow and Scalp than in Tomahawk," the expert explained.
Thus, "they are based on approximately the same technology," Hetman said. In his opinion, nothing prevents Storm Shadow and Scalp from covering much longer distances than is stated by Ukraine's allies.
"These restrictions are artificial. If necessary, they can fly further. Missile manufacturers have two flight ranges: the first for domestic consumption and the second for export consumption. That is, what is exported usually flies a shorter distance than what the country produces for itself," the expert concluded.
"We don't need to ask for missiles that fly far. Storm Shadow and Scalp can fly far if there is such a political will," he concluded.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that our country is constantly suffering from attacks from the sky by the aggressor country Russia. We are talking about guided aerial bombs, attack drones, and missiles of various types. The Head of State called on all countries of the world that value human life to act together.
