"There are problems": Budanov explains whether there is a threat of Russian army offensive from the north

The threat of Russian troops attacking Ukraine from the north exists, and it is absolutely real. The tendency is to escalate, so the problem cannot be ignored.

This was stated in an interview with NV by the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov. Moreover, he noted that the offensive from the north is already underway, but did not specify whether it was in Sumy or Chernihiv region, so as not to "provoke panic."

"You see, this is a bit of an anecdotal situation for me. For two years, when they were shouting that there would be an attack from the north, we said that it would not happen. Nothing happened. The moment we said that there would be an attack from the north, everyone immediately wondered if it would happen," the head of the DIU said.

Budanov added that there are problems, and they are getting worse. The intelligence chief is convinced that there will be no catastrophe, but they cannot be ignored.

"I have already told someone from the Western press that I will not have much good news this year, unfortunately," Budanov said.

As a reminder, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko, said that the Russian occupation army is planning a significant increase in numbers. These forces will not be enough to attack Kyiv or open a new front, but the enemy may try to expand its existing positions.

"The Russians are probably forming an army or even two of 14 divisions, 16 brigades. They are preparing personnel, this year they plan to recruit 300-400 thousand, from April 1, up to 150 thousand will be called up for military service," he said.

– In June, commenting on the situation at the front, Budanov said that the situation was difficult. However, no global negative consequences are expected. According to him, the situation for the Defense Forces on the battlefield will remain so for at least a month.

– The Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the occupants continue to accumulate forces in the Kharkiv sector and use a lot of infantry. The enemy is trying to find weaknesses in the Ukrainian defense to break through the front line.
