The North Crimean Canal will be left without water: Ukrhydroenergo predicts the consequences of the Kakhovka HPP explosion

Crimea will be without water again because of the occupiers' crime

If Russian troops blow up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and dam, it will provoke problems in the territory of southern Ukraine, which is temporarily held by the Russian Armed Forces. As a result, the Crimean peninsula will be left without Dnipro water.

Ihor Syrota, CEO of Ukrhydroenergo, is sure of this. He commented on the situation on Tuesday, June 6, on the air of the United National TV Marathon "United News".

The expert explained that there will be no water to fill the North Crimean Canal. This canal stopped working in 2014, but after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russians managed to reopen it and steal water for the occupied peninsula.

North Crimean Canal on the map

"Of course, the North Crimean Canal will be left without water. There will be no water in the Kakhovka reservoir, of course, and there will be no water in the canal, it goes without saying," Sirota said.

When the Defence Forces liberate the peninsula from the Russian invaders, our state will have to find a solution to this problem "very quickly", he added on the We Are Ukraine broadcast.

The hydroelectric power station will have to be rebuilt from scratch, as there will be nothing to repair. "We will build a more beautiful and powerful [plant] in the same place, and they [the Russians] will see it from their side," said the Ukrhydroenergo CEO.

North Crimean Canal

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported:

- Evacuations were announced in the settlements of Kherson region that fall into the flood zone. The water level is rising downstream of the Kakhovka reservoir.

- The so-called head of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, has already complained that the North Crimean Canal may become shallow.
