Some fragments have been preserved: Antonov showed how the legendary Mriia looks like now. Photo
The world's largest transport aircraft An-225 Mriia was destroyed last year at Antonov airport near Hostomel in Kyiv Region. However, some fragments of the aircraft were preserved, and now they are being removed by specialists of the state-owned Antonov enterprise.
These spare parts may be useful in the case of the construction of a new version of the airliner. This is reported by Avianews, shots of Mriia provided by journalists from the Aerovokzal. (to see the photo, scroll to the end of the page).
The wing and tail plumage have already been dismantled from the An-225. "The preserved tail plumage may help in the construction of a new An-225, but the engines from the airplane have already been in operation for several months," the report said.
"Mriia was equipped with six D-18T engines, which are also used by the An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft. Antonov State Enterprise was able to repair three of the six Mriia engines and two of them have already been delivered as spare parts to the An-124.
The nose section of the airliner suffered the most during the hostilities in February 2022. A fire that broke out after Russian Federation strikes on the airfield destroyed the cockpit with all equipment, the nose section of the fuselage, the engine, landing gear and part of the wing.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the former director general of the state-owned Antonov enterprise will be tried for official negligence that led to the destruction of the An-225 Mriia airplane. The accused is currently in custody.
