Russia launches massive missile attack on Ukraine: explosions in Khmelnytskyi, Zaporizhzhia and Zhytomyr regions

Russia fires Kinzhal and Kalibr missles at Ukraine

On Saturday, 5 August, Russia launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. In particular, it launched Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles from the Black Sea, Kinzhal supersonic air-launched missiles from Russia and Iskander ground-launched ballistic missiles from Belarus.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force. At the same time, monitoring channels reported about 10 explosions in Khmelnytskyi region and three explosions in Zhytomyr region.

The Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration confirmed the information about explosions in the region, while the Zhytomyr authorities have not yet commented.

The first deputy head of the Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Tyurin, said that a series of explosions had occurred in one of the region's communities.

"Tonight, during the air raid, Khmelnytsky region was attacked by the enemy again. There was a series of explosions in one of the region's communities. I am grateful to our air defence forces for their quality work. At the same time, the blast wave damaged the roof, doors and windows in several private houses, smashed windows in one of the municipal cultural institutions, in the bus station and in a commercial building," he said.

It was also loud in Zaporizhzhya region. The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Yuriy Malashko, said that the enemy had made another attack on the regional centre.

"A rocket attack was launched on the outskirts of the city. Specialists are working at the site to eliminate the fire. There was no information about the victims. The consequences of the destruction are still being established," he said.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on another Russian missile attack.

"Another Russian missile attack against our country took place today. "Kinzhals", "Kalibrs". They hit Motor Sich and our Khmelnytskyi region," he said.

The Head of State thanked the air defence servicemen who shot down some of the missiles.

"Some of the missiles were shot down, I am grateful to our air defence servicemen for that. But no matter how many such Russian attacks there are, they will not help the enemy. We will still defend freedom for Ukraine, for all our people. And Russia will not be able to replace international law with "terror", or crises, or any kind of intimidation. Literally every week, it gives the world real strength to defend normal life," the President concluded.

On the night of Sunday, 6 August, the occupiers again launched a massive attack. Air raid alerts were sounded in many regions of Ukraine. A series of explosions were heard in the Khmelnytsky region. According to the Regional Military Administration, air defence is in operation.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that by the evening of 5 August, a large-scale air alert was announced in Ukraine due to Russia's massive launch of missiles in different directions. The missile threat lasted more than an hour.
