In the temporarily occupied Mariupol, the construction of a new theater continues on the site of the former drama theater, which was destroyed by an air strike by Russian troops on March 16, 2022. At the time of the bombing, hundreds of civilians, including children, were hiding in the theater.
According to local authorities, about 300 people died in the rubble. This was reported by the Mariupol City Council.
Construction work is currently underway at the site of the tragedy. Photos from the scene, which appeared in local publics, show that the new walls of the future theater are almost complete. The occupiers plan to complete the construction by the end of the year.
"The new theater will host Russian performances. And this is after the Russians dropped bombs on the drama theater building on March 16, 2022, when hundreds of families with children were hiding there. Many people died..." the city council noted.
On March 16, 2022, a bomb dropped by Russian troops destroyed a drama theater with about a thousand civilians inside. The entrance to the theater was marked with large letters "Children," which emphasized the presence of numerous children.
The construction of a new theater on the site of this terrible tragedy is yet another crime by Russia.
As a reminder, the network showed what the central market of Mariupol looks like under occupation. The facility is almost completely destroyed and is not functioning.
Earlier it was reported that the Russians launched a railroad connecting the temporarily occupied Mariupol with the Russian Rostov-on-Don and passing through Hranitne/Malovodne. At railway stations in the occupied part of Donetsk region, Ukrainian resistance activists noticed diesel locomotives and cars labeled "Russian Railways".
