"Experts need to study the debris": Air Force commented on Russia's possible use of missiles from North Korea

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can neither confirm nor deny the information about Russia's possible use of ballistic missiles made in the DPRK to strike our country. The answer to this question will be revealed after experts examine the debris found at the sites of the missile impact.

This was stated by the spokesman for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yurii Ihnat, during a TV marathon. He was responding to a question about the White House's statement on Russia's use of missiles handed over by Pyongyang.

Ihnat emphasized that he believes it is premature to say with 100% certainty that North Korean ballistic missiles were also fired during the recent missile attacks on Ukraine.

"The statement came from the United States. Therefore, experts will study some debris, and then it will be possible to say whether this is a fact or not. I cannot confirm this yet," Ihnat said.

At the same time, he believes that Iranian or North Korean missiles are not something fundamentally new that Ukrainian air defense has not had to deal with before.

"I think that the weapons they have, including ones from North Korea, are mostly Soviet, meaning that a lot of technologies were transferred by the Soviet Union. Maybe even identical. So we should hardly expect anything new. Iskander may be different in some ways, but not too much," Ihnat said.

As a reminder, the statement about Russia's use of missiles from the DPRK to attack Ukraine on January 4 was made by the White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby. The American official reminded that Moscow's purchase of ballistic missiles from the DPRK is a violation of many UN Security Council resolutions. The supply of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia has not yet been confirmed but the United States has no doubt that such supplies are planned.

According to Kirby, the United States will seek punishment for the DPRK and Iran for supplying Russia with ballistic missiles, including tougher sanctions. The United States also plans to convene a meeting of the UN Security Council on this issue on January 10.
