"Every day counts": Baerbock proposes to transfer Taurus missiles to Ukraine as soon as possible

Baerbock speaks on the issue of including Taurus missiles in military aid to Ukraine

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock indirectly expressed support for the transfer of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. She said that Berlin "considers all the wishes" of Kyiv, and that Russia's full-scale invasion shows that "every day counts".

The German foreign minister said this at a joint press conference with Senegalese Foreign Minister Aissata Tal Sal in the German capital, answering a journalist's question about Taurus. Deutsche Welle quoted Baerbock as saying.

"Over the past year and a half, we have seen not just clearly, but in the most ruthless way that every day counts," the minister said.

She noted that every day the cruelty of Russia's war against Ukraine becomes apparent again. "And over the past year and a half, we have seen how important our military support is to Ukraine's defence," Baerbock said.

She welcomed the decision of Denmark and the Netherlands to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with F-16 fighter jets. According to the German foreign minister, this is "a good day for Ukraine" and therefore "a good day for Europe".

"From this point of view, we consider all the wishes of Ukraine to continue to protect people. Every day counts," the minister said.

The journalists added that the provision of Taurus for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Berlin remains an open question.

On 21 August, German cabinet spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that there had been no changes in Germany's position on the Taurus.

He added that Germany is the second largest supplier of military aid to Ukraine after the United States.

Taurus missile

Taurus subsonic air-to-ground cruise missiles can hit targets at a distance of up to 500 km. They are designed for high-precision strikes and destruction of highly defended enemy air defence targets.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, on 14 August, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner supported the provision of Taurus missiles to Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv. He expressed hope that our army would soon receive these weapons.
