Britain and Norway have formed a "maritime coalition" and will hand over the first ships to Ukraine

Maritime Coalition of Norway and the UK

The UK and Norway will create a maritime coalition to ensure the safety of Ukrainian vessels in the Black Sea. As part of this initiative, our country will receive two Sandown minesweepers from the UK Navy.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense on X (formerly Twitter). The coalition of the two countries will be led by London.

"These minesweepers will provide Ukraine with a significant capability that will help save lives at sea and open up vital export routes that have been severely restricted since Russia's illegal, large-scale invasion," British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps explained his position.

He also noted that he is fully supported by his Norwegian colleague Ine Marie Søreide in creating a maritime coalition to support Ukraine at sea. In the long term, this will help our country transform its navy, making it more compatible with Western allies, more compatible with NATO, and strengthening security in the Black Sea.

It should be noted that the purpose of the British Sandown minesweepers is to search for and destroy sea mines using remotely operated search vehicles. Last summer, the Ukrainian military underwent training in Scotland, where they mastered the operation of Sandown minesweepers.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, according to President Zelenskyi, the expulsion of the Russian military fleet from the Black Sea is undoubtedly the greatest achievement of the Defense Forces since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This allowed the resumption of food flights with grain supplies to countries on three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe.
