Biden meets with Zelenskyy and announces a new $225 million arms package for Ukraine: what will it include

The meeting in Paris was also attended by the heads of the Pentagon and the State Department

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US President Joe Biden in France on June 7. During the talks, the American leader announced a new $225 million arms package for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy began his meeting with Biden after a visit to the French National Assembly. A video of the talks was posted on the President's official Telegram channel.

"I met with US President Joseph Biden in Paris. We discussed Ukraine's defense capabilities, the situation on the battlefield, and preparations for the signing of a bilateral security agreement," Zelenskyy said.

He added that to effectively defend itself against Russia's daily terror, Ukraine must be able to strike at military targets in Russia.

It is also important to strengthen the defense of the Kharkiv region and speed up the delivery of American weapons, the President of Ukraine emphasized.

"Thank you for the US standing with Ukraine. It is necessary for our people to feel that we are not alone – we are with you, with our strategic partner. We appreciate the leadership support of the United States for the Ukrainian peace formula," Zelenskyy said.

The meeting was also attended by State Department Secretary Anthony Blinken and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, CNN Pentagon correspondent Natasha Bertrand reported. She published the first photos from the meeting.

"President Biden and President Zelenskyy have just started their meeting here in Paris with Secretary of Defense Austin and Secretary of State Blinken. Biden announced a new $225 million aid package for Ukraine, for which Zelenskyy thanked him," the journalist wrote on social media at 2 p.m. on Friday.

What will be included in the new US arms package

The Pentagon has released a list of weapons included in a new package of assistance to Ukraine:

The Associated Press adds that the Ukrainian army will be able to use the weapons from the new package to attack "threats inside Russia" to defend Kharkiv.

The weapons will be transferred from existing U.S. stockpiles to get to the battlefield in Ukraine as quickly as possible.

Zelenskyy and Biden met on the sidelines of ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in the French region of Normandy.

Earlier, the United States confirmed that Biden and Zelenskyy would talk on the sidelines of events in Normandy, as well as the G7 summit scheduled for June 13-15 in Italy.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on June 7, Zelenskyy addressed the French parliament. From the rostrum of the National Assembly, he said that Europe was no longer a continent of peace. The audience greeted the Ukrainian leader with a standing ovation.

During his speech, Zelenskyy also rejected the possibility of territorial concessions to Russia to end the war and said that Ukraine would be able to win.
