AFU may counterattack the enemy this year: Zelenskyy names the condition

Ukrainian Armed Forces' counteroffensive is possible if the front remains stable. Source: General Staff

Ukraine can arm and train new combat brigades to launch a counteroffensive this year. However, this will only be possible if the situation on the front remains stable, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the Washington Post.

According to him, after the occupants seized Avdiivka, the Ukrainian military "stabilized the situation through smart steps."

"If you don't take steps forward to prepare a new counteroffensive, Russia will. That's what we learned in this war: if you don't do it, Russia will do it," the newspaper quoted the Ukrainian president as saying.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainian defenders lack weapons. "I don't want Russia to know how many air defense missiles we have, but without the support of Congress, we will have a large shortage of missiles. This is a problem," he said.

According to him, Ukraine's attacks on Russian refineries were a necessary measure, and although the United States was unhappy with such actions (Zelenskyy confirmed this), there was no other choice. "Their society must learn to live without gasoline, without diesel, without electricity. This is fair," the president said.

As reported, the main target of Russian terrorists in Ukraine is currently the energy sector and its various parts. Russia wants to repeat the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant disaster, Zelenskyy said while summing up the day. He emphasized that the common task of Ukraine and its partners is to prevent another environmental disaster.
