X-101/555 missiles covered the longest distance of 2,300 km: what Russia used to attack Ukraine on March 22 and what is known about the consequences

On March 22, Russian troops launched a combined massive attack on Ukraine. Kamikaze drones, missiles of various types, including ballistic missiles, were fired at Ukrainian cities and villages, and primarily at energy system facilities.

In this case, the X-101/555 missiles covered a distance of about 2,300 kilometers to reach the Lviv region. The details of the attack were collected by the monitor channel, and the commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleshchuk spoke about its course and the results of air defense.

During the combined massive attack on the morning of March 22, Russian troops used a wide range of weapons. In particular:

• X-101/555 cruise missiles – launched from at least 13 Tu-95s from the Caspian Sea ( 40 units in total);
• aeroballistic hypersonic missiles of the X-47M2 "Kinzhal" complex ( 7 missiles in total, launched from ten MiG-31Ks from the Tambov region of the Russian Federation);
• Iskander-M/KN-23 OTRK ballistic missiles ( 12 missiles in total, launched from the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation and the temporarily occupied Crimea);

• supersonic air-launched cruise missiles X-22 (5 units from five Tu-22M3 bombers from Rostov region);
• S-300/S-400 surface-to-air missiles (22 missiles from Belgorod and Kursk regions of the Russian Federation);
• attack UAVs of the "Shahed" type ( 63 of them, launched from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk region of the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation);
• X-59 guided missiles (two missiles from two Su-30/Su-34, launched from the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia).

"On the night of March 22, 2024, the enemy launched a combined missile and air strike on critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine. In total, the enemy used 151 means of air attack... As a result of the air battle, 92 air targets were destroyed: 55 Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs; 35 X-101/X-555 cruise missiles; 2 X-59 guided missiles," noted the Ukrainian Air Force commander.

Anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force and the Ground Forces, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces were involved in repelling the missile attack.

The enemy launched missiles along complex routes. For example, the X-101/555 missiles covered the longest distance of about 2,300 kilometers before reaching the Lviv region.

"Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Cherkasy, and some settlements in Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Khmelnytskyi, and Vinnytsia regions were under attack. The strikes targeted, among other things, the energy sector of Ukraine," the monitoring channel said.

As a reminder, on March 22, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine: critical infrastructure facilities were hit in a number of cities, and power outages began.

As a result of the enemy's attacks on critical infrastructure, settlements in a number of regions were cut off from electricity, and emergency blackouts began.

In particular, the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant was hit: after the attack, traffic across the dam was completely stopped. A missile hit a trolley bus moving across the dam.

It also became known that ZNPP was again on the verge of blackout due to the Russian attack. The largest nuclear power plant in Europe is connected to the Ukrainian power grid by a single line that was repaired only last week.
