White House: only Zelenskyy decides when he wants to launch a counter-offensive

Only Zelenskyy decides when he wants to launch a counter-offensive

According to the charter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the decision to launch a counter-offensive is made by the country's supreme commander-in-chief, i.e. Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The same applies to the direction of the attack.

This is how John Kirby, coordinator of the White House National Security Council, commented on President Zelenskyy's position on the timing of the counteroffensive. The United States respects this decision.

"As for President Zelenskyy and his comments, I want to say that he is the commander-in-chief, and only he makes the decision if and when he wants to go on the offensive, and in what direction, with what units, and how he is going to do it," the White House spokesman said.

He stressed that the decision on when the Ukrainian Armed Forces will launch a counter-offensive is entirely up to the Ukrainian leadership, and the United States fully respects this decision.

Kirby noted that the United States and its partners are currently focusing on providing Ukraine with the necessary tools to fight, as well as training the Ukrainian military.

"As I said earlier, we have provided the vast majority of the types of capabilities that the Ukrainians said they needed to conduct offensive operations in the spring," the White House official continued.

Kirby stressed that additional ammunition, in particular for artillery, would be supplied to Ukraine in the near future.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needed more time to launch the long-awaited counter-offensive against Russian troops. Currently, the Armed Forces are still waiting for the delivery of the promised military aid from their partners.
