Ukraine returns bodies of 64 fallen defenders
Ukraine returned the bodies of 64 soldiers killed in battles with the occupiers. In exchange, representatives of the Ukrainian side gave Russia the remains of the liquidated invaders.
The exchange took place on October 6. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
"Today, as a result of repatriation measures, the Ukrainian side managed to return the bodies (remains) of 64 deceased Ukrainian defenders to the territory controlled by the government of Ukraine... In turn, the Ukrainian side, in accordance with the norms of international humanitarian law, handed over to the Russian side the bodies (remains) of combatants killed (deceased) in connection with the armed aggression against Ukraine," the Coordination Center said in a statement.
In addition to the Coordination Headquarters for the exchange of prisoners, representatives of the Joint Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Central Military Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Sumy region, the State Tax Service of Ukraine, as well as representatives of other security and defense structures took part in the exchange of bodies.

"The Armed Forces of Ukraine will ensure the proper and safe transportation of the repatriated bodies (remains) of the fallen (deceased) defenders of Ukraine to designated state specialized institutions for their transfer in accordance with the established procedure to law enforcement officials and forensic experts in order to organize and conduct procedural (investigative) actions and forensic examinations necessary to identify the victims," the Coordination Headquarters assured.
They also emphasized that Ukraine is doing everything possible to establish the whereabouts of missing or captured Ukrainian soldiers and bring them home.
Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that in the liberated territories, the Ukrainian military collects the bodies of the occupiers to exchange them for their comrades .
This is not the first time that the bodies of defenders and occupiers have been exchanged. In late August, Ukraine returned the bodies of 84 more Ukrainian soldiers.
The exchange fund for the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war is also being replenished. According to the GUR, dozens of occupants are captured every day.
