Minister: Ukraine may strike in response to Russian attacks on energy sector

Galushchenko said that Ukraine could respond to Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in a mirror image.

If Russia starts attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure again this winter, Ukraine may retaliate with mirror strikes. In this case, the targets will be Russian oil and gas infrastructure, as the sale of oil and gas resources is the backbone of the Russian economy.

This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko, according to Politico. The official considers this response to be fair and emphasizes that there is someone in the world who can replace Russian oil and gas to prevent a critical jump in energy prices.

According to the minister, as winter approaches, the threat of renewed Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure is growing, as the enemy seeks to deprive Ukrainians of heat and light. Already, he added, the Russian Federation is regularly conducting cyberattacks on Ukrainian power grids; it is only a matter of time before missile and drone strikes are added to them.

However, Galushchenko emphasized that Ukraine may well respond in kind to these attacks and attack Russia's energy infrastructure.

"It would be fair. In response, we would retaliate with the same approach - attacks on their energy infrastructure," Galushchenko said.

At the same time, if the decision to respond to Russia's energy terror is made, Ukraine will strike at Russia's oil and gas infrastructure, the Energy Minister said. This will be all the more painful for Russia, as oil and gas sales are one of the most powerful engines of the Russian economy.

Galushchenko also disagreed with the journalist's fears that Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil and gas infrastructure, if successful, would lead to a rapid increase in energy prices in the world.

"Attacks on infrastructure would not be so critical for prices, especially when it comes to gas and oil. I mean, these are fuels that could be bought not only in Russia. I am sure that the world could cope," the minister shared his thoughts.

Earlier, the spokesman for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, told how Russia has changed its attacks with drones and missiles against Ukraine. According to him, the enemy is now using tactics that can be called "the tactics of a thousand cuts." The enemy has moved from massive strikes, when Russians launched dozens of missiles at a time, to launching a much smaller number of missiles and drones at a time, but the attacks are happening almost every day.

This is how the invaders expect to achieve their goals - by constantly inflicting numerous "cuts" on Ukraine.
