"There is no need": the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained why it is not necessary to mobilize 18-25 year olds, despite the US call

Lowering the mobilization age in Ukraine makes neither political nor practical sense. Although some U.S. officials have repeatedly advised our country's leadership to mobilize 19-year-olds, Ukraine has not and will not agree to this. Moreover, the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not need to recruit such young men.

This was stated by Oleh Dombrovskyi, spokesperson for the operational command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "West." He noted that the mobilization age cannot depend on foreign political influence.

"Mobilization from the age of 18 is only the intentions and opinions of officials in the United States. We are guided by the requirements of our current legislation, as well as the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," emphasized the spokesman for the OC "West."

He reminded that it is the sovereign right of our country to decide at what age mobilization should begin.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Ukrainian legislation stipulates that only Ukrainians aged 25 to 60 can be mobilized. According to Dombrovskyi, this is due to various, purely practical things.

"The appropriateness of mobilization from the age of 18 will depend on the situation on the front line. Of course, if the time demands it, the rules may be revised. But for now, there is no such need. We can provide enough people for the security and defense forces of Ukraine," he said.

The military also referred to the ten-year experience of the Russian-Ukrainian war. This experience also shows "that we do not need to mobilize Ukrainian citizens aged 18 to 25."

It should also be noted that adults under the age of 25 can join the army of their own free will.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also does not consider lowering the mobilization age in Ukraine and has not taken any such initiatives. Instead, they are preparing motivational contracts for citizens aged 18-25.
