The war of technologies: Malyuk told about the success of the Defense Forces and destruction of Russian know-how. Video

The aggressor country Russia does not have an advantage in the current war of technology. Ukrainian soldiers are actively using fiber-optic drones and are actively neutralizing expensive enemy reconnaissance UAVs. And the occupiers' statements about the allegedly effective counteraction to Ukraine's maritime drones are not true.

This was stated by the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk and the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov at the forum "Ukraine. Year 2025" forum, answering a question from an OBOZ.UA correspondent about the enemy's success in the war of technology.

In particular, Malyuk confirmed that the Russian Federation has been actively using fiber-optic drones to attack the positions of Ukraine's defenders, but currently has no dominance in this area.

"Indeed, during the Kursk operation, the enemy began to actively use fiber-optic drones, which are not subject to our electronic warfare. However, we have already made this decision, and today it is being practically implemented in many military units. I will not disclose the number of facilities and the number of people working on them, but believe me, there is no Russian dominance here," he said.

The SSU Head added that "there were indeed a few unfortunate days" when the enemy burned 24 armored vehicles in one day, but in the following days the Defense Forces burned many times more enemy vehicles.

"So it's nothing but their propaganda," Malyuk summarized.

He also commented on Russian statements about the alleged invention of a UAV that can effectively counter Ukrainian drones at sea. According to Malyuk, this is also "nothing more than enemy propaganda and another of their IPSOs."

"We have not yet encountered these drones in any practical way. But we have found a solution to their aircraft. Both we and our colleagues from the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine are working on their helicopters quite effectively. There are losses of their personnel, and there are losses of their helicopters. Therefore, if drones appear on the horizon, believe me, we will find a solution to this problem," the SSU Head said.

He also pointed out that Ukraine has found an effective and inexpensive way to counter reconnaissance drones, which the Russians "use very actively, constantly and closely.

These are ZALA, Supercam and Orlan, Malyuk said. The most advanced of these is the Supercam, which can transmit target coordinates online with an accuracy of one meter and adjust fire.

According to the SSU chief, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Volodymyr Zelensky set a task to "find a countermeasure very quickly."

"And believe me, we found it pretty quickly. The cost of such a reconnaissance drone of each of these types is more than $100,000. We developed an FPV aircraft costing 700 dollars, which effectively destroys such reconnaissance drones. Then there were days when even in the Kursk sector we destroyed more than 20 units per day. And after that, the Commander-in-Chief General Syrsky noted that the enemy does not hit with aim, it is their eyes, and the lives of our brothers and our equipment, armored vehicles, directly depend on this."

Malyuk also added that where the enemy has "great know-how," "we just ingeniously find the key to solve these issues."

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved: Mykhailo Fedorov, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the entire private sector, who are working on this area. But I would also like to say that they should understand that the main priority is to win over, not to make super profits and enrich themselves. Because the relevant authorities also make sure that, God forbid, no one gets lost during the production process," he said.

The DIU chief added that in order to counter Ukrainian maritime unmanned systems with drones, the occupiers "tried to use them several times and tried to make an FPV launch system from Mi-8 helicopters."

"Two out of three uses ended in FPV explosions on board Mi-8, and they are trying not to do such experiments anymore. So believe me, these are all elements of information warfare and just propaganda."

At the same time, FPV drones are already taking off from Ukrainian maritime UAVs and destroying the enemy's coastal infrastructure, Malyuk added.

"An example is the operation in Donuzlav, when simultaneously the attack was carried out from the sea by FPV drones and it was just a very, very big surprise for them," the SSU chief summarized.
