"The war is in a critical phase": Germany calls on partners to strengthen military support for Ukraine

Germany demands an increase in military support for Ukraine

In its budget for 2024, Germany has allocated €7.5 billion for military assistance to Ukraine, doubling the amount from the previous year. However, this is deemed insufficient, prompting the German government to urge its partners to increase aid to Ukraine.

German government spokesman Steffen Gebresteit made this statement, emphasizing that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz insists on such measures in discussions with his EU counterparts.

This matter will be a key topic at the EU summit on February 1. "We need to do more to assist Ukraine in all its endeavors," Gebresteit declared.

Earlier, Scholz noted that the current phase of the war in Ukraine is critical. Therefore, the German Chancellor proposed to fellow leaders to assess what additional support other countries can offer to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Presently, Germany's contribution to the supply of military equipment to Ukraine surpasses half of the total provided by the EU.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Germany will be sending military helicopters to Ukraine for the first time: Kyiv will receive six Sea King Mk41 multi-purpose helicopters along with a set of spare parts. Furthermore, the German side will offer training for the Ukrainian military.

Recently, Canada also announced another package of defense assistance to Ukraine, which may include multipurpose boats and support in training on F-16 fighter jets for the Armed Forces.
