The State Emergency Service showed photos from the scene of the tragedy in Poltava, where a Russian missile killed sleeping people

On the morning of Saturday, February 1, Russian troops fired a missile at a residential high-rise building in Poltava. The hit destroyed the staircase from the 1st to the 5th floor.

Four people were killed and 13 others were injured, including children. This was reported by the State Emergency Service.

"Poltava. Russia hit a residential building with a missile. 2 people were killed in the attack. Another 7 were injured, including a child," the statement said.

After a while, the number of dead and wounded increased.

"The number of people killed in a rocket attack on a residential building in Poltava has increased to 3. 10 people were injured, including 1 child," the SES said at 09:31.

As of 12:13, the State Emergency Service reported four dead. At that time, 22 people were rescued.

At noon, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported that 13 people were injured in the attack. There were three children among them.

"Under the procedural guidance of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was launched into the commission of a war crime that resulted in the death of people (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the investigation, on February 1 in the morning, the Russian armed forces launched a missile attack on Poltava, preliminarily with an X-22 missile. The entrance of a five-story building was destroyed, and other residential buildings and vehicles were damaged. Three people were killed and 13 injured, including 3 children. Information about the victims and damage is being clarified," the statement said.

The Russian missile destroyed the entire entrance of the apartment building – from the 1st to the 5th floor. 18 nearby apartment buildings, a kindergarten, and 12 cars were damaged.

Emergency and rescue operations are ongoing. According to the Poltava Regional State Administration, as of 11:30 a.m., more than 400 rescuers, security forces, and utility workers, as well as more than 80 pieces of equipment, were involved in the rubble removal. Experts are also inspecting nearby buildings to assess the damage.

Headquarters of the city council, law enforcement agencies, the State Emergency Service, and volunteer organizations have been deployed.

We would like to remind you that this morning Russian missiles were also recorded in Poltava and Kharkiv regions.

In Poltava region, Myrhorod district came under enemy attack. Damage to the energy infrastructure was recorded there: 164 households and one legal entity were left without electricity.

In Kharkiv region, Russian terrorists attacked two districts: Kharkiv and Berestyn.

The invaders also hit a residential area of Kharkiv, where a private house was on fire. Around 8 a.m., several wounded and one woman killed by the Russians were reported.

According to Ukrenergo, due to the Russian attack, emergency blackouts were introduced in seven regions of Ukraine at around 8 a.m.
