The Russian Army is constantly changing the direction of the main attack: analysts explained the reasons

Occupants are constantly changing the direction of the main attack

The Russian terrorist army periodically changes the direction of the main attack at the front. The enemy regularly switches its focus to offensive operations in the Lyman, Bakhmut, and Pokrovsk sectors.

At the same time, at the beginning of 2024, the invaders concentrated their main forces on the Avdiivka and Kupiansk directions. This is stated in the analysis of the Institute for the Study of War.

The ISW noted that the Russians lack the ability to conduct more than one effective large-scale operational operation at a time, as they have done throughout the war. Now, the occupiers can use several offensive efforts to distract Ukraine's defense capabilities in the face of a lack of artillery and air defense.

Analysts also emphasized that the current type of Russian offensive operations allows units involved in less intense operations to rest and recover, while other units are actively engaged in combat. After some time, Russian troops may intensify their efforts on another operational direction, forcing Ukrainian forces to redistribute their defense resources across the theater and creating vulnerabilities that Russian forces can exploit.

Moreover, the occupiers are now creating operational and strategic level reserves capable of supporting offensive operations in the spring and summer of 2024. At the same time, analysts continue to believe that these reserves are unlikely to be ready to act as a first-echelon breakthrough force or a second-echelon force capable of conducting large-scale mechanized attacks in 2024.

According to ISW experts, Putin's forces are likely to use trained reserves to replenish or reinforce existing units and continue infantry-led offensives with occasional limited mechanized attacks.

At the same time, analysts warn that if the United States does not resume providing military assistance to Ukraine, even poorly trained and ill-equipped Russian occupiers will be able to conduct successful offensive operations in the face of a lack of artillery and air defense in the Armed Forces.

The Russian Army is constantly changing the direction of the main attack: analysts explained the reasons

As a reminder, the Russian occupiers, using their superiority in air, missiles and artillery ammunition, are trying to reach the administrative border of Donetsk region at any cost. The situation is particularly difficult in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka directions.

Earlier, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said that the situation at the front in eastern Ukraine has deteriorated significantly in recent days. The occupation forces have intensified their offensive, with repeated attempts to attack, in particular, in the Lyman, Bakhmut and Pokrovsk directions.
