The United States has not yet changed its policy of providing Ukraine with opportunities and additional authorization to use American weapons against targets deep inside Russia. Washington 's position was not affected by the Russian attack on Poltava on September 3, which killed more than 50 people.

This was stated at a briefing by US Department of Defense spokesman General Patrick Ryder, Ukrinform reports. "Regarding our policy on long-range strikes (on targets in Russia - Ed.), I have no announcements regarding any changes in our policy," the official said.

This is how the Pentagon representative answered the question whether the latest Russian missile strike on Poltava brought the American leadership closer to providing Ukraine with the ability to hit targets deep inside the aggressor country.

At the same time, Ryder assured that the United States will continue to provide Ukraine with air defense systems together with its international allies and partners.

As a reminder, after the missile attack on Poltava, the White House promised Ukraine to strengthen its air defense. According to White House adviser John Kirby, the United States will send more military aid to Kyiv in the coming weeks.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- On September 3, the Russian occupiers hit Poltava with two ballistic missiles. The Institute of Communications was hit. The attack killed at least 51 people and injured 271 others.

- After the September 3 Russian missile attack on Poltava, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba asked international partners to speed up the supply of additional air defense systems to Ukraine and take on new commitments. He urged them to step up to prevent new tragedies.

- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine continues to work to obtain permission for long-range strikes with Western weapons against Russia. In particular, such attacks could destroy a significant portion of Russian ballistics before the launch.
