The occupiers attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa region at night: Humeniuk tells how many drones the enemy sent to the south

Occupants attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa region at night

On the night of January 1, Russian occupants attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa region with kamikaze drones. A fire broke out at the facility, but it was quickly extinguished and there were no casualties.

Natalia Gumenyuk, head of the press center of the Southern Defense Forces, told this during the telethon. According to her, more than 50 Shaheds flew over the southern regions of the country on New Year's Eve.

"A very powerful attack on the city of one million people began at half past twelve in the morning when people were preparing to celebrate the New Year," she said of the strikes on Odesa, where houses were burning and a person was killed by falling debris.

Humeniuk emphasized that the enemy drones were flying over residential areas, between multi-story buildings. In addition to the homes of Odesa residents, the port infrastructure in the region was again targeted by the Russian Federation .

"Unfortunately, one of these facilities was hit, and a fire broke out, but it was quickly extinguished and no one was injured," emphasized the representative of the Southern Defense Forces.

She added that about fifty Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones were spotted in their area of responsibility. Air defense operations lasted for almost 11 hours in Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipro, Odesa and Vinnytsia regions.

"There are shootdowns everywhere. The absolute majority is in Odesa region - about three dozen drones were shot down. But even a downed drone is dangerous," emphasized Humeniuk.

According to her, the wreckage of the drones destroyed at low altitude reached the ground, creating a powerful blast wave that led to damage to objects and fires.

In particular, on New Year's Eve, air defense forces in the south shot down 51 Shahed-131/136 UAVs. Of these, 28 were shot down in Odesa region, 14 in Mykolaiv region, five in Vinnytsia region, two in Dnipro region, and one each in Kherson and Kirovohrad regions.

"The enemy's obvious priority remains the port infrastructure of Odesa region, a large number of drones were sent from the sea to the coastal zone. A fire broke out in one of the port terminals as a result of a hit, which was quickly extinguished. No one was injured," the Southern Defense Forces said.

They also added that the enemy deliberately sent some of the drones to residential areas of Odesa's residential districts around midnight, where people were gathering in their homes to celebrate the New Year with their families. At least three apartment buildings, three private houses and outbuildings were damaged as a result of the downed UAVs. One person was killed and three were injured.

In Mykolaiv region, a hit to an infrastructure facility caused a massive fire, but firefighters quickly extinguished it. There were no reports of any injuries.

In the Vinnytsia region, in Tulchyn district, the debris of a downed enemy drone damaged a garage and the windows of several houses. People were not injured.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, a 28-year-old IDP Olesya Puzyrevych was killed in Odesa as a result of a massive Russian attack on December 29. The woman and her husband had left the Russian-occupied village of Myrne near Melitopol to escape the "Russian world."
