On the morning of January 1, defenders of the skies in Kyiv destroyed a number of Russian attack drones. The wreckage of the downed targets landed in several neighborhoods, causing fires and damage, killing two people and injuring seven.
The enemy attack affected the Pecherskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts. This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko.
According to the updated data of the Kyiv City Military Administration, a dead woman was found in a residential building in Pechersk during the rubble removal.
The SES noted that the injured included men and women aged 29 to 79, including pregnant women. Doctors diagnosed most of them with multiple shrapnel wounds, bruises on the body and an acute stress reaction.
The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, said that the death toll has risen to two.
The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, said that the Russian army attacked buildings in the center of Kyiv with at least four kamikaze drones. Law enforcement officers and experts continue to work at the scene of the attack.
"Since the morning, the liquidation of the consequences of the strike on the capital has been going on. I was personally at the sites of the falling debris... My condolences to the families and friends. The rescue operation in the Pechersk and Sviatoshynskyi districts continues," he wrote.
It is known that the fire broke out on the roof and in one of the apartments of a residential building in the Pechersk district, the top two floors were partially destroyed.
Among other things, the fall of UAV debris caused a fire on the roof of one of the National Bank's buildings in the Pechersk district, damaging windows on the upper floors.
The NBU reported that there were no casualties, and all operating systems and services are functioning in full, without changes.

"The fire is localized on the area of 70 square meters. Residents are being evacuated. One woman has been rescued, information about the victims is being established," the agency said.
A fire also broke out on the roof of a non-residential building over an area of 80 square meters, and windows and doors were smashed in the school.
In Svyatoshynskyi district, debris fell on a non-residential area: two garages were destroyed and a fire broke out over an area of 20 square meters, six cars and tram tracks were damaged.
State Emergency Service employees were working at the scene, firefighting and rescue operations were underway.
"In Sviatoshynskyi district, tram tracks are damaged 100 meters from the tram depot. Rescuers are completing the work and road builders will start restoring the tracks immediately. Glass in three trams is also damaged," Klychko said, posting a photo.
Patrol police officers, explosive experts, rescuers and psychologists from the State Emergency Service, and investigative teams were working on the ground.
"Police and rescuers continue to work on the ground. The liquidation and documentation of the consequences of the Russian attack is underway," the Kyiv police reported.
Rescuers extinguished a large-scale fire in Pechersk, where the roof of a 200-square-meter administrative building was on fire. The fire was also localized in apartments on the fourth and fifth floors of an apartment building (70 square meters). The sixth to fourth floors were partially destroyed.
In Svyatoshinsky district, firefighters extinguished a fire in two garages. An apartment building, nine cars, a tram, and a tramway were damaged.
Law enforcement officials also added that there was damage to one private house and 10 vehicles in the Kyiv region. According to preliminary reports, there are no casualties.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has updated the data on the victims in the capital. In particular, in the Pechersk district, rescuers saved an elderly woman: she had an acute stress reaction. Two more injured men were handed over to doctors.
"The fire has been localized. Work is underway to eliminate and rescue people. Firefighters are also extinguishing a fire in a non-residential building... In Sviatoshynskyi district, a woman with an acute stress reaction has been treated by doctors. The fire has been extinguished," the statement said.
Under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, criminal proceedings have been initiated over a war crime (Part 1 Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the SBU Main Directorate in Kyiv and Kyiv region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the Russian attack on January 1. He emphasized that even on New Year's Eve, Russia was only concerned with hurting Ukraine: the enemy sent 111 attack drones against Ukrainian cities.
"Unfortunately, at this time we know about one dead person. My condolences to the family and friends. There are also injuries and destruction. All services are involved. And I am grateful to everyone who, regardless of the circumstances, every night and every day on duty, at work, protects Ukraine and Ukrainians," Zelensky said.
As OBOZ.UA reported, in the morning of December 31, Russia launched ballistic missiles at Kyiv region. In the capital, the fragments of an enemy target fell on the roof of a private building in the Darnytskyi district, and in the region, a private residential building was partially destroyed, a woman was injured.
